This belt was originally designed to be used in
conjunction with the newly implemented Tactical Load Bearing Vest (TLBV), while
still being compatible to use with the “Y” LC-1 suspenders. When supported by
suspenders the soldier could attach small arms ammunition cases, water canteen
covers, entrenching tool carrier, and first aid dressing pouches to the belt.
The IIFS replaced the
partially obsolete concept of a shoulder harness, in the style of suspenders, and individual equipment belt design, with the
newer concept of a tactical load bearing system that employs a vest. The vest
as being the main component, is known as the TLBV (Tactical Load Bearing Vest), sometimes referred to as the LBV-88, the M-1988 LBV and later known as the ETLBV (Enhanced Tactical Load Bearing Vest).
This equipment belt is constructed of 2 ¼” heavy
duty nylon webbing. It has two rows of eyelets running the length of the belt.
The top row is used to attach the “Y” suspenders to the belt, while the bottom
row is used for securing pouches that still use the old style M1910 double end
belt attachment hooks. This belt is size MEDIUM and is issued to any soldier
whose waist size is smaller than 30”, since the belt needs to be able to fit
over all layers of outer clothing including armored vests, It will expand to as
large as 36” when fully extended.
